Before + After: Outdated Ranch Style Home to Stylish Resort

Nothing was overlooked transforming the 1955 single story home to it’s current resort-like vibes. This is a true representation of the expression “I tore the place down to the studs”. The original is probably familiar to most, maybe it’s the style of home you grew up in or is reminiscent of a family member’s house. Even though it’s outdated the before photos show a house that was clearly a family home. The finished remodel still manages to maintain that warmth while looking like an advert for Restoration Hardware.

The front facade had a major facelift. Arguably the biggest change is the extensive stonework and extended front portico.

It appears that part of the front lawn was removed to create a more dramatic front porch approach. New windows, white casings, crisp white front doors, and stone pavers complete the look.

The original view from the front door upon entry. The ceilings are significantly lower and the room is divided by the wall and fireplace.

Raising the ceiling and removing the wall that divided the room made quite the impact. The double sided fireplace is a beautiful focal point.

The double sided fireplace had a different stone veneer on each side.

Carpet is replaced with narrow wood plank flooring. The stark white ceiling and light grey paint created a lighter feel in the home.

The dining area and kitchen layout stayed consistent with the original.

Recessed lighting and a chandelier light fixture over the table update the look.

The new kitchen is outfitted with new stainless steel appliances, white shaker cabinets, marble counters, and subway tile backsplash.

The subway tile goes up to the ceiling and the awkward cabinet above the kitchen window is removed. A portable kitchen island (complete with the cult classic Boos Board) creates more counter space.

Large windows overlooking the backyard allow plenty of natural light.

This ceiling is also raised in the renovation, with wooden beams installed and ceiling fans removed.

Just off the living room is a large patio deck.

The new pergola extending from the roof creates an outdoor living room atmosphere. What a great space for lazy Sunday mornings or watching the game with friends.

An office space in the original home had access to the deck.

Raised wood paneled ceilings, drapes, and new wood floors create an inviting sitting room.

The “before” bedroom transforms into a simple and elegant nursery.

What a wonderful depiction of the power in new paint and flooring. The recessed lights and crown molding completes the look.

A peak at one for the house’s three bathrooms in need of some TLC.

Subway tile to the ceiling raises the eye. The dark grout and black hardware add some dimension to the small bathroom.

When I first saw this bedroom I did a double take. The room does not look huge to start with so I was surprised they found a way to add hidden closet space without compromising the feel of the room.

Like many rooms in the home, the ceiling was raised and wood beams installed. A new closet is created with a wall separating the back portion of the room. Crown molding helps disguise the wall falling short of ceiling height.

The original home has a tan stucco exterior and black framed windows.

Consistent with the front of the house, new white framed windows, white window casings, and rock siding modify the back of the home.

The landscaping featured many plants and mature trees surrounding the pool

Stone pavers and a built in barbecue create the perfect backyard setting. Many plants were removed and replaced with palms.

The result is a spacious backyard with a truly resort like ambiance.
